I haven’t seen The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (heaven knows why I haven’t yet seen it, as by many accounts it appears to be really good!).

Ah! I first came across the phrase “stinking badges” somewhere in my teenage years (via Stephen King’s “In the Deathroom” short story — I believe it was written as “steenkeen batches”), and had wondered then what it was making reference to. And now, all these years later, I finally know.
