La Chica Fantasma: Page 05
Psst! Hey Chelsea, now’s your chance! Ask her if she knows the Ghost of Freddie Mercury*!
Eh, it’s worth a shot, right?
Cos how ’bout that, turns out he’s got a question to pose too…

This comic reminds me of the famous “ghost” photograph from this British legend.
I’m pleased to see that someone’s picked up on that, because “The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall” (and the “ghost on the stairs” meme-spawn/trope it was primarily responsible for kicking off) is indeed the inspiration behind my decision that Chelsea and Millie should first encounter their house’s Oldest Resident on said house’s main staircase.
As far as I was (and still am) concerned, anything other than that scenario wasn’t even an option — it simply had to be the stairs. I remember thinking to myself as I wrote this story’s script back in 2011 “I guess at least some readers will pick up on the connection/reference, surely?”.
After all, “Ghost on the Stairs”* trope is right up there with such titans of fright-notoriety as “The Old Dark House” itself, so I was confident the affiliation would be readily apparent to anyone with even a passing familiarity with Things Spooky.
Thanks for taking the time to comment on this Reynard, and thereby informing me that at least one person gets it.
I appreciate it muchly.
*It crops up all over the place within pop culture if one knows where to look. “The ghost on the stairs, the vampire’s bite…“
I’ve been a fan and student of true-life ghost stories ever since I read Larry Kettlekamp’s Haunted Houses when I was about six or seven years old.
